High Octane Petrol (HOBC / 97 RON) prices in Pakistan have reached unprecedented levels in April 2026. Following the April 3 government announcement raising regular petrol by Rs. 137.24/L, HOBC — which is not regulated by OGRA — is expected to be updated by oil marketing companies to reflect higher base import costs. The estimated new HOBC rate is above Rs. 670 per litre at major stations. This comes on top of the March 22 levy hike that had already pushed HOBC from ~Rs. 329 to Rs. 535/L.

Which Vehicles Actually Need High Octane?
- Turbocharged cars — Honda Civic Turbo, Toyota Corolla Cross, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, MG HS, Toyota Fortuner 2.8T
- Imported luxury vehicles — BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche — designed for 95–98 RON
- High-displacement sports bikes — 400cc+ motorcycles: Kawasaki, Yamaha R-series, Honda CBR
- 70cc & 125cc motorcycles — Honda CD70, Yamaha YB125, Suzuki GD110. HOBC gives zero benefit
- Locally assembled cars — Toyota Corolla (non-turbo), Honda City, Suzuki Alto/Cultus/Swift, KIA Picanto. Regular petrol is sufficient
🔑 Golden Rule: Check your vehicle’s owner’s manual or fuel cap sticker. If it says 95 RON or higher → use high octane. If it says 91–92 RON → regular petrol (Rs. 458.41/L) works perfectly and you save ~Rs. 212/L.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the high octane petrol price in Pakistan today April 2026? ▼
After the April 3 petrol hike, HOBC prices are estimated at Rs. 670–720/L across major cities as OMCs update their pump rates. The previous rate was Rs. 535/L (set on March 22, 2026). Confirm at your local station as OGRA does not regulate HOBC pricing.
Why has HOBC become so expensive in 2026? ▼
Three compounding factors: (1) The March 7 emergency petrol hike raised base import costs; (2) The March 22 levy increase raised the HOBC petroleum levy from Rs.105.37 to Rs.305.37/L; (3) The April 3 petrol hike raised the base cost again by Rs.137.24/L. HOBC absorbs all these increases as it is unregulated.
Is high octane worth using at Rs. 670+/litre? ▼
Only if your engine specifically requires 95+ RON — like turbocharged cars (Honda Civic Turbo, Kia Sportage, imported luxury vehicles). For all other Pakistani vehicles, regular petrol at Rs. 458.41/L is sufficient and HOBC provides zero benefit at any price.
Can I mix regular petrol with high octane? ▼
Yes, mixing is possible but not recommended if your car specifically requires 95+ RON. For turbocharged engines, using purely 92 RON petrol risks knocking. For standard engines, mixing provides no benefit and simply costs more.
