About High Octane Fuel in Pakistan
High Octane petrol (such as Shell V-Power, PSO Hi-Octane, and Total Excellium) is a premium fuel grade with an octane rating of 95–97 RON, compared to regular petrol at 92 RON. It currently costs around Rs. 670/litre.
When Should You Use Hi-Octane?
- Turbocharged or high-compression engines (e.g. Honda Civic Turbo, BMW, Audi).
- Cars where the manufacturer specifies 95+ RON fuel.
- Performance-tuned vehicles to prevent engine knock.
For regular 1000cc–1300cc Pakistani cars like Alto, Cultus, or City, standard petrol is perfectly fine and more economical.
Tips to Improve Fuel Average in Pakistan
- Maintain correct tyre pressure (typically 30–35 PSI).
- Drive at a steady 80–100 km/h on highways.
- Avoid excessive idling in traffic — turn off if stopped for 60+ seconds.
- Keep the engine and air filter serviced regularly.
- Use air conditioning sparingly at city speeds.
- Avoid aggressive acceleration and hard braking.
